I used to drive truck over the road and every day I’d drink one of those giant cans of monster and a 1 liter of water. That went on for 3 months. Let me preface this with many things sold today in grocery store are not healthy. Energy drinks are one of them. They are definitely not the worst, nor they are even remotely nutritious.
Firstly, if he drinks only one energy drink a day, he does not exceed maximum dosage.
Secondly, energy drinks usually contain some vitamins. This is harmless.
Thirdly if he drinks one with sugar, it spikes his blood sugar as much as any soda. Not healthy and it probably means big sugar crush for him later that day, which can affect his performance in school. Sugar is also not great for his teeth and weight management (if he is not active enough).
If he drinks diet version, artificial sweetness in excess quantities could be potentially harmful but mostly harmless except laxative effect.
Fourthly caffeine, energy drinks contain more caffeine than a cup of coffee but not much more than some of the other sodas. If he has healthy heart, risk is mainly with drinking too much for long period of time. Could be harmful, but can also help him in sports.
Taurine is natural compound found in some foods, but it is potentially harmful, research on this is more inconclusive.
Overall, it is not ideal drink. Overall it taxes the body and is overdriving several systems while it’s effect is not that great, mainly very addictive product unnecessary expansive and certainly worse than water, tea, or coffee. It can cause irregular heartbeat (harmless if having healthy hearth), high blood pressure, anxiety, dependency and could affect sleep pattern.
There was a study, recently linking consumption of energy drinks with possible higher risk of stroke because after drinking it blood vessels undergo sudden spasm, which is mainly and most of the time totally harmless, but the risk of hemorrhage is higher than if you do not drink energy drinks.
IN CONCLUSION- all above warnings are very very mild and negative effects of energy drinks mainly stems from everyday usage overtime while exceeding the recommended dosages. Of course almost every candy, fast food and other unhealthy foods can have list like this, it is not just energy drinks who can cause conditions mentioned above.

No of course not, unless you have a heart Condition and are susceptible to the effects of caffeine. People drink multiple cups of coffee every day and are fine.
But please, from experience, make sure you are drinking water or something hydrating in between. I’ve had occasions where I have had a monster at work and when the energy wears off it absolutely crushes you. That’s the caffeine crash but also because I was drinking it slowly throughout my shift, and because its so filling I didn’t feel dehydrated until it wore off.
